Durian – (Sau Rieng)

Durian is a fruit of many reputations.  If you haven’t heard about it already, some claim it to be smelly, weird, and deadly.   All these are true.  Durian has an odor and flavor unlike like anything else on this planet.  The best explanation i can give you of this truly bizarre fruit is a carmalized onion, garlic, and bannana pudding.  If that in anyway sounds interesting to you give it a try.   It’s the closest thing your going to get to tasting an alien fruit.   I tried it out of curiosity the first time and it was quite funky but now i enjoy some durian every once in a while.  I prefer it in a sweet soup (che) or with some sticky rice (xoi) as opposed straight durian.
